Quick answer
On a computer, click the gear icon → See all settings → General tab → Signature → Create new (or edit an existing one). Type your signature, choose it under “Signature defaults,” then click Save Changes at the bottom. In the Gmail app, signatures are set separately under Settings → your account → Mobile signature (Android) or Signature settings (iPhone).
Your Gmail signature is added automatically to the bottom of your emails. Here’s how to set it up or change it on any device.
Change your Gmail signature on a computer
- Open Gmail and click the gear icon in the top-right corner.
- Click See all settings.
- On the General tab, scroll down to Signature.
- Click Create new and give it a name, or click an existing signature to edit it.
- Type your signature in the box. Use the toolbar to add links, formatting or an image.
- Under Signature defaults, choose your signature for new emails and replies/forwards.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes.
Change your signature in the Gmail app
The Gmail app uses a separate mobile signature, which is plain text only.
Android
- Open the Gmail app and tap the menu (☰).
- Tap Settings and choose your account.
- Tap Mobile signature, type your signature and tap OK.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the Gmail app and tap the menu (☰).
- Tap Settings → Signature settings.
- Turn on Mobile signature and type your signature.
Use different signatures
If you’ve created more than one signature, you can switch while writing:
- Open a new email.
- Click the pen icon (Insert signature) at the bottom of the compose window.
- Choose the signature you want.
Remove your Gmail signature
- Go to Settings → See all settings → General → Signature.
- Under Signature defaults, choose No signature for new emails and replies, or delete the signature with the bin icon.
- Click Save Changes.
Troubleshooting
- Signature not appearing: make sure it’s selected under Signature defaults and that you saved the changes.
- Image not showing: insert it from a public URL or Google Drive instead of pasting it.
- Signature appears below quoted text in replies: tick “Insert signature before quoted text in replies” under the signature settings.
